3 Quotes on Work from Saints

We’re coming up on a celebration of saints with a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation on November 1. It’s All Saints Day, which means that not only do we go to Mass, but we also are called to remember our family in heaven in a special way.

But do the saints really have anything to teach those of us in business?

In fact, they do. Here are three quotes I find inspiring as I go about my own work (whether at home or in the business world).

By your work you show what you love and what you know. – Saint Bruno

Whenever you begin any good work you should first of all make a most pressing appeal to Christ our Lord to bring it to perfection. – Saint Benedict

We are at Jesus’ disposal. If he wants you to be sick in bed, if he wants you to proclaim His work in the street, if he wants you to clean the toilets all day, that’s all right, everything is all right. We must say, “I belong to you. You can do whatever you like.” And this is our strength. This is the joy of the Lord. – Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

  1. Wendy Petzall says:

St. Josemaría Escrivá, Friends of God: The Richness of Ordinary Life, n. 18: Interior life. Sanctity in our ordinary tasks, sanctity in the little things we do, sanctity in our professional work, in our daily cares…; sanctity, so that we may sanctify others.
