Back in 2012, I wrote a blog post called The Stages of Entrepreneurial Growth. It was a short post that was almost entirely comprised of an email that Bobby Christian, 3Pillar’s Chief Growth Officer at the time, had sent me.
Bobby’s email outlined the various challenges that startups and entrepreneurs face at a number of revenue phases. I found it be spot-on then. Now, 10 years later, and with 3Pillar having risen a few more rungs on the revenue ladder that Bobby laid out, I still find that to be the case.
This idea of continual evolution is one of the ideas that germinated into Emerge and Evolve, so I thought it would only be right to use Bobby’s original email as a way to kickstart the conversation around stages of leadership growth. Bobby was one of my first and most influential mentors. When I was trying to convince him to join 3Pillar, I offered him 30% of the company. He told me that was crazy, and that I should never offer anyone that much of the company again.
